Included in these galleries are the black and white and monochrome versions of select images that were originated in color and are displayed in the color galleries. Creating a black and white image from a source color image is a creative and active process that results in a new artistic work. In creating these images, artistic judgement is exercised with total control in how each of the colors are converted to different shades of gray as well as in selectively applying brightness, contrast, and sharpness levels to different areas of the image and to the entire image. There are many different tools and techniques that can be utilized just as there is with any artistic process.
